Goal #1 

Blanding Elementary students will be offered enrichment opportunities during the school day designed to enhance learning beyond core instruction through imagination, innovation and creativity.  By the end of the 2023-2024 school year K-5, 60% of the Blanding Elementary students participating in the Destination Imagination Enrichment Challenge Program will score a 17 or above on the program rubrics for creativity of solutions or presentation, creative use of material, and evaluation of teamwork. The number of students scoring above benchmark on the Acadience Reading Composite Assessment will increase from the beginning of the year to the middle of the year by 1%.

Action Steps

1. Hire a paraprofessional to support school-wide enrichment.

2. Qualifying students will place in the Above Benchmark category as measured by Acadience Composite at the beginning of the year and middle of the year. Blanding Elementary will provide K-5th grade students enrichment opportunities to explore and deepen their learning beyond Tier I.

3. This paraprofessional will support students by following the Destination Imagination program guidelines that include:

  1. Participating in training to launch and maintain the Destination Imagination program.

  2. Training for teachers and paraprofessionals in the Destination Imagination Program as well as other computer science, coding, STEM and STEAM practices and implementation.

  3. Organizing materials for challenges.

  4. Setting up tournament schedules and other logistics within our school for team and instant challenges.

  5. Guiding students through instant challenge practices.

  6. Organizing a team of community members to support the scoring of the tournament challenges.

  7.  Purchase team licenses.

  8. Purchase materials needed for challenges.

4.  Additional enrichment learning opportunities will be provided to support student interests and needs.  Some of these may include STEM and or STEAM activities, Coding, Computer Science Exploration, Science Experiments, etc.

Goal #2

Grade 2 students will meet the 60% growth goal as measured in the Acadience Math and Reading pathways to progress assessment by making typical or above typical progress by the end of the 2024 school year.  

Action Steps:

Funding ½ of an additional classroom teacher to decrease class sizes and allow for  smaller RTI groupings within the grade level.

This teacher will help support the RTI process in language arts in the following areas:

  1. Participate in PLC meetings

  2. Create common formative assessments

  3. Gather and monitor data for team collaboration meetings

  4. Provide targeted instruction in differentiated groups

  5. Implement evidence based strategies to support data-driven student needs

1.  Provide funding for a paraprofessional specifically designed to support our reading interventions. This interventionist will:

  1. Administer program intervention, monitor intervention data and Acadience Reading data.

  2. Participate in data meetings with teachers.

2. Purchase intervention curriculum, materials and supplies to support reading achievement.

Goal #4

Action Steps

The Blanding Elementary School Leadership team will hire a consultant to provide in-depth training on the elements of developing and monitoring the progress of the Blanding Elementary school improvement plan (90-day plan) goals.

  1. Coaching Calls (1 hour) at $250/hour 13 = $3,250: The consultant will work with the Blanding Elementary admin team via bi-monthly (until December) and monthly coaching calls supporting challenges and next steps with the ongoing development and improvement of the school improvement plan.

  2. Professional Development for the school leadership team at $2,600/day x2 = $5,100: The consultant will work with the Blanding Elementary school leadership team for two days throughout the year (either full or half days depending on the schedule). 

  3. Four On-Site Leadership Coaching Days will support the ongoing analysis and development of the school improvement plan that will include modeling and side by side coaching for school leadership at $2,200/each day.

  4. The school team leadership will collectively develop and monitor the school improvement plan. Two of those days will be off contract and will receive a stipend of $250/day x 7 x 2 = $3,500. The other two days will be during contract time where substitutes will be hired at $120/substitute x 7 teachers. 2 days x 14 subs with subs = $1,680.

  5. School teams will participate in two collaboration planning and implementation days to support the school improvement. Substitutes will be hired for these days at $120/substitute x 23 teachers x 2 days = $5,520.

Nominations were open from Sept. 18th to Sept. 28th for the 2023/24 school year.  

Elections were held from Sept. 29th to October 2, 2023 at Blanding Elementary. Congratulations to our newest members, Rebecca Pincock and Rick Winsor.
