Parents and Students;
Greetings. Welcome back to Navajo Mountain High School. My name is Ryan Carlson. I am the new principal of NMHS. Mr. Gary Rock retired and has moved on to greener pastures. I want to thank Mr. Rock for all his hard work and dedication. I know his decision to retire was not an easy choice and he truly loved being in Navajo Mountain.
As a way of introduction; I am originally from Pleasant Grove, Utah. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in History Education from UVU with teaching Endorsements in English, Social Studies, ESL, and Reading. I received a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from SUU. For the last nine years, I have been serving the Monument Valley area as a teacher/ Athletic Director at MVHS and for the past three years as the Assistant Principal.
I am extremely happy to become a member of the Navajo Mountain Community and Jaguar Nation. I am looking forward to working with you. We have a lot of exciting things happening at our high school. Please watch for further announcements regarding upcoming events.
Today I want to make you aware of four things in this letter today:
1- Registration will begin on August 1, 2023. It will be completed online, however, Chromebooks will be available in the front office if you wish to come to the school to complete registration. The office hours will be 8:30- 3:30 Monday-Thursday.
2- Every parent/guardian needs to fill out a Fee Waiver Form and return it to the front office. Please do this ASAP. Failure to do so will result in you being charged fees for certain classes and activities. New Fee Waiver Forms must be filled out at the beginning of every school year.
3- I would like to meet with every student and parent/guardian before the school year starts. During this meeting, we will go over what classes you want to take and what activities or clubs you would like to be involved with. I will be available Tuesday, August 8- Thursday, August 10 in my office for these meetings. Please call the front office or email me at rcarlson@sjsd.org to schedule a time for this.
4-The first day of school is Wednesday, August 16 at 8:20 am.
