As a few may know, a few Utah Rotary Clubs had joined together and cleaned up the former Halchita Head Start Building in Halchita and turned it into a Community Center. San Juan Foundations has a 3 year Grant which will help our local children and their families. San Juan Foundation-American Rescue Plan Act After School Program is what the grant is called which is located in Halchita. We are open for Registration this week. Open House is on Monday, January 10th starting at 4pm. Stop by to see our Center. The registered students will come in on Tuesday, January 11th K-6th Graders 7th- 12th Graders 4:00- 5:30pm 5:30-7:00pm The program will be hosted at the Halchita Community Center and its purpose is to help your students with completing their homework, along with learning about STEM careers and doing activities that teach students the value of these careers in their future. We currently DO NOT have access to Internet as we are waiting for the Fiber Optic to get to Halchita. Meanwhile, we will be helping students with Homework. We will also have short enrichment activities for the students to enjoy before going home. I would like to create a partnership with TES & MVHS Staff to help with our students needs. If there are certain things you are currently using in your classrooms or would share that do wonders for us all, please keep in touch. When we do have access to Internet, we may ask if its possible to send students home with a Chromebook depending on how you feel about the process, etc. We will have a few computers available at a later date. Dear Parent and Public, Our number one goal is to ensure that students and staff have a safe and welcoming environment that promotes learning, and at this time I am happy to report that students and staff of San Juan School District are safe. Yesterday afternoon, a threatening comment was received at one our schools. Then, latter in the evening a suspicious device appearing to be some type of home-made explosives was found at a second SJSD school. The San Juan County Sherriff’s Department along with the Navajo Nation Police responded and determined it to be non-functional as an explosive device but still dangerous in nature. These incidents added to the recent activity on TikTok and our commitment to ensure the continued safety of students and staff, the decision to was made that Friday December 17th would be a virtual day of instruction for all students. This will allow time for further investigation. I thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through this situation. We do believe these incidents are related to the TikTok challenge. We plan on students returning to face-to-face instruction Monday, Dec 20th. Should anything come to light in our ongoing investigation to require a change of plan, we will again reach out to inform parents and public. In response to developing safety concerns and to ensure the continued safety of students and staff, Friday, Dec 17th will be a virtual day of instruction for all students in all San Juan School District Schools. Regular in-person instruction will return on Monday, Dec 20th. Teachers will contact students (via phone, Class Dojo, email, Facebook, etc.) and assignments will be made (read for 20 minutes, write, practice math facts, Navajo language, do an art project, etc.) Toys for Tots will be postponed to Tuesday, Dec. 21st from 3 PM - 5 PM. We apologize for any inconvenience to your family and thank you for your continued support, understanding and cooperation.

Dear SJSD Parents and Public, In response to a growing need for more time for teachers to participate in and complete state required literacy training, as well as more teacher time to support lesson plan development for an 80 min instructional block, the SJSD Board of Education approved to change Dec 22nd from a regular day of school to a teacher work day. For students, this means this year's Christmas/Holiday break will begin on Dec 22nd and run through Dec 31st with regular school resuming on Monday, Jan 3rd. If questions or concerns arise regarding this decision, please reach out to your child’s school administration. As always, we appreciate and value our parents and other educational partners. Today many students, staff and teachers wore their pajamas and received a Red Ribbon to remind them of the importance of staying safe by saying NO to drugs. We appreciate all our parents who are teaching and modeling good habits for their students. We want all children and families to be healthy in mind, body and spirit, and saying No to drugs will help us accomplish this.

On Tuesday, October 5, we had a wonderful School Community Council meeting thanks to our wonderful parents who were willing to participate for an hour after school. We elected our new officials for the year and reviewed the goals. We also discussed some of the upcoming activities for October and November. UNHS will hopefully partner with TES for a Trunk or Treat and future activities. Classes will be decorating their classroom doors and hallways. Parents will get to vote on the doors they like. Students will have parties in their classrooms, but due to restrictions, there will not be a parade this year. Watch for upcoming announcements for future fun!
